Kirtan (yoga chants) is a participatory music experience of sacred mantras and devotional chants performed in a call and response style which involves the audience in the performance.

The leader sings one line or verse and the guests chant in response.

Kirtan is a sacred soundscape that resonates deeply within creating  a blissful state of consciousness.

The chanting is accompanied by exotic traditional Indian instruments such as the harmonium, tablas, caratals, tamboura and sitar together with western instruments such as the guitar and flute.

By meditating on the mantras we reach a state far beyond the stress and worries of this mundane world.

Through absorbtion on transcendental sound we are able to journey to that pure space beyond time and taste the bliss emanating from the spiritual sky.

Kirtan Workshop - Monday evening September 14th

The workshop will be held at "The Ashram" 345 Liverpool Street, Darlinghurst.

The cost of the evening is $25.00 which includes 2 kirtan CD's including the soon to be released soothing meditation CD -"Govindas Lotus Room Volume 1 - Kirtan meditations" by Tribhuvanath and the Govindas Kirtan Band. There is a selection of 4 other kirtan CD's from the "World kirtan series" to choose between so as to avoid any duplication with CD's you may already have.  Written word for word translations for the manras is also provided.

The purpose of the workshop is to foster appreciation of kirtan with an emphasis on understanding the meaning behind each of the mantras, analysing the Sanskrit terminology and the meaning of each of the words.

Understanding what you are chanting will enhance your meditation, making the experience sweeter and more meaningful.
